When the strangers declare their passionate love for Fiordiligi and Dorabella, the women are outraged and offended. She points out that the soldiers are bound to fool around while they are out on the battlefield, so the girls ought to have fun and flirt with all the guys they want.ĭon Alfonso asks Despina to introduce the sisters to two handsome young men he knows (Ferrando and Guglielmo in disguise, of course). Their maid, Despina, decides she must talk some sense to the sisters. When Don Alfonso tells Fiordiligi and Dorabella their boyfriends' regiment has been summoned to the war, the women are devastated. Alfonso proposes a bet: Ferrando and Guglielmo will do whatever Alfonso says for the next 24 hours, and Alfonso will prove that Fiordiligi and Dorabella are in fact unfaithful.
